REALQUALITY RQ-ADENO is an in vitro diagnostic (IVD) test kit for the detection and quantification of Adenovirus DNA by Real-Time PCR.
Professional Note
Please read the instructions for use (IFU) carefully before performing the test. Contact a Viet Huy technical specialist for on-site validation support in your laboratory.
Adenovirus belongs to the family Adenoviridae and the genus Mastadenovirus. It is a non-enveloped virus with an icosahedral capsid and a double-stranded DNA genome. To date, at least 7 Adenovirus species (A to G) have been identified, comprising more than 52 serotypes. Adenoviruses cause respiratory, gastrointestinal and eye diseases; they are common in young children and also in military personnel. In addition, Adenovirus infection is associated with high morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients.
Blood sample monitoring is a widely applied procedure for patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), especially in pediatrics. Typically, the virus can be detected in the blood 2 to 3 weeks before clinical symptoms appear. Such early detection provides a sufficiently long window for medical intervention. Furthermore, quantification by Real-Time PCR is particularly useful for prognosis and patient monitoring, which depend heavily on the level and changes of the viral load. Specifically, an increase in viral load is associated with higher mortality.
