IVD test kit for the quantification of JCV and BKV viruses by real-time PCR
Professional Note
Please read the instructions for use (IFU) carefully before performing the test. Contact a Viet Huy technical specialist for on-site validation support in your laboratory.
BK virus and JC virus are polyomaviruses that are usually acquired in childhood and persist in a latent state. When immunity is compromised, BK causes kidney disease, while JCV causes brain disease such as progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy.
Quantitative testing of BK virus and JC virus by Real-time PCR is of great clinical importance, especially in immunocompromised patients.
The test helps detect and monitor viral reactivation. Both BK and JC usually persist in a latent state, but when the immune system is weakened (organ transplantation, HIV...), the viruses can replicate and cause disease. Quantifying the viral load in blood or urine helps detect this process early.
For BK virus, the test plays an important role in monitoring kidney disease after transplantation, especially BK nephropathy. A high viral load is a warning sign of the risk of kidney damage, helping physicians adjust immunosuppressive drugs in a timely manner.
For JC virus, viral quantification supports the diagnosis and monitoring of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) - a serious neurological complication.
In addition, the test helps evaluate treatment efficacy and disease prognosis, as changes in viral load reflect the patient's clinical response.
